USEFUL LINKS

THE LAKE

The water of Lake Annecy, which can reach 26°C in summer, is a delight for swimmers who can also enjoy all kinds of water activities: sailing, water skiing, windsurfing, boat rental, diving....

The lake can also be discovered during a cruise. It is possible to make many themed tours or meals on board, or omnibus tours to visit the lake ports. These are open to pleasure boating and offer boat rentals.

ACTIVITIES OF FULL NATURE

Cycling is a must on Lake Annecy. A 33 km long greenway links Annecy to Ugine, along the western shore of the lake and then up to Ugine. It is also possible to continue on the east shore to go around the lake. Still by the lake, two 18-hole golf courses enjoy a breathtaking view: the Lake Annecy golf course in Talloires and the Giez golf course.

To discover the lake from the sky, two-seater flights, introductory or advanced paragliding and hang-gliding courses are available.

Climbing and via ferrata also offer superb views of the lake. For the youngest or with friends, an adventure course in Talloires offers bridges, vines and zip lines.

ART OF LIVING

Lake Annecy has 20 species of fish, including Arctic char and fera, which can be found on the menu of restaurateurs. Four Michelin 2017 starred restaurants are located in Annecy or around Lake Annecy: Le Clos des Sens** in Annecy-le-Vieux, L'Esquisse* and La Ciboulette* in Annecy, Yoann Conte** in Veyrier-du-Lac. As for the famous Auberge du Père Bise in Talloires, it is now in the hands of chef Jean Sulpice.

Annecy is also famous for its painting representations since the 15th century. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the influence of the Romantics and Realists, and their veneration of the mountains, attracted many artists to Annecy. Most of the representations of Lake Annecy come from landscape painters. The most famous of these paintings is Paul Cézanne's "Le lac bleu".

VISITS AND HERITAGE

Annecy is a real tourist landmark. The Thiou, the lake's natural spillway, runs through the entire city. In the city centre, the quays and many bridges are located alongside churches and alleys.  Overlooking the city, the Musée Chateau d'Annecy, a former court residence and duchy seat, was transformed into a regional and naturalist museum in 1842.

On the right bank of the lake, Menthon Saint Bernard Castle houses a library of more than 12,000 volumes dating back to before the French Revolution. On the other side of the lake, in Sevrier, the Bell Museum is dedicated to the Paccard Foundry, the world's leading manufacturer of church bells and chimes. A stone's throw away, the Ecomuseum of Lake Annecy presents the history and daily life of 19th century Savoyards.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PANORAMAS

The viewpoint of the Col de la Forclaz, above Talloires, at an altitude of 1150 m, offers a bird's eye view of the lake. A path leads to a second lookout with a view of the surrounding peaks.

Shortly after Veyrier du lac, a path leads to Mont Veyrier in 5 hours of walking back and forth. At the top, a plunging view of Annecy and the Great Lake, framed by the summits of Les Bauges, the Entrevernes mountain, Semnoz is admired.

On the Semnoz massif, there are many belvederes. The Crêt de Chatillon, the highest point of Semnoz at an altitude of 1699 m, offers a panoramic view of the Western Alps: the massifs of Haut Faucigny, Mont-Blanc, Vanoise, Ecrins, Aiguilles d'Arves...
